Cebu is the first and oldest city in the Philippines. It is older than even Maynilad by at least seven years. In it, is the oldest school and oldest street in the country. It boasts of being the birthplace of Christianity in the Far East.
In many ways, Cebu has always been the Pioneer City. It is the land of many “historic firsts” & continues to pave the way for the rest of the country.
Bulacan’s name is believed to have been derived from the word “Bulak-lakan” – or place where flowers bloom. This due to the fertile soil, beautiful women, poetry & art that comes from this part of the country. Some argue that the province takes its name after “Bulak” or cotton which used to grow abundtantly in the region.
Very few alive today know that Diliman used to be a low mountain. Its name is derived from the word “Dilim” or dark. “Dilim-an” meaning the shaded place, where the mountain left a shadow.
Few people know or remember, but history books still have it recorded: In the time of the Katipunan – circa 1896, two rival factions stood in the Philippines: one, the “Magdiwang” faction of Andres Bonifacio & the other, the “Magdalo” of General Emilio Aguinaldo.
